Congratulations, Team GCA!

A  message from GCA's Vice Chairman, Matthew D. Hill

May 19, 2014

Dear Global Camps Africa Team,

Thank you for helping us make yesterday such a success for Global Camps Africa and AIDS Walk NY.  Together, we helped raise over $5.1M for the fight against HIV/AIDS, with Team GCA contributing more than $9,300...and still counting.

It was a beautiful day for a walk, and we hope you all enjoyed the experience...what a difference a year makes!  Attached is a picture of our team pre-walk.  If you have any photos of your own, feel free to share them on the Global Camps Africa Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Global-Camps-Africa/245910408756420...and "like" us while you're at it, if you haven't already!

Thanks again for all of your support.  We hope to see you at GCA activities in the future.  Stay tuned for details on our GCA World Cup Finals event in NYC on Sunday, July 13.

Best,

Matt

GCA Founder & President to Deliver Convocation at Carleton College

Convocation Considers How Camping Can Transform the Lives of South African Children and Youth

Posted by Carleton News (http://apps.carleton.edu/news/news/?story_id=1126725)

Philip Lilienthal, lawyer, philanthropist, and founder and president of Global Camps Africa, will present Carleton College’s weekly convocation on Friday, April 25 from 10:50 to 11:50 a.m. in the Skinner Memorial Chapel. Entitled “Having Fun and Doing Good: Impacting HIV/AIDS Through Experiential Learning (the Camp Experience),” Lilienthal’s presentation is free and open to the public. Convocations are also streamed live and can be viewed online at go.carleton.edu/convo/.

A former Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia and a veteran camp owner in the United States, Lilienthal combined his belief in the transformational nature of camping and his passion for helping people around the globe to create Global Camps Africa. Global Camps Africa is a nonprofit organization that changes the lives of South Africa’s vulnerable children and youth by providing HIV/AIDS prevention education and training through high-impact residential and day camp experiences and continuing education. In doing so, the organization hopes to equip young people with the life skills that will support them in becoming safe and productive adults. Learn more about Global Camps Africa at www.globalcampsafrica.org.

In 2013, Lilienthal was awarded the prestigious Sargent Shriver Awarded for Distinguished Humanitarian Service by the Peace Corps. Named in honor of the first Peace Corps Director, the annual award is given to a returned Peace Corps volunteer who continues to make a sustained and distinguished contribution, whether that be to humanitarian causes at home, abroad, or through innovative social entrepreneurial efforts to bring out significant long term change.

For more information about this event, including disability accommodations, contact the Carleton College Office of College Relations at (507) 222-4308. The Skinner Memorial Chapel is located on First Street between College and Winona Streets in Northfield.
