Nearly 100 supporters of Global Camps Africa celebrated the success of Camp Sizanani at a fundraising reception in Reston, Virginia on April 10. Founder Phil Lilienthal reported on the recently completed 27th camp. He noted that more than 3,200 HIV/AIDS-affected boys and girls in South Africa have been served at the camp since 2004.
The event, hosted by Phil Lilienthal and the board of directors, was held at Jasmine Café in Lake Anne Village Center. Guests enjoyed South African wine and music, exotic food, and a video of camp activities.
Tommy Kennedy, who raised over $10,000 for Global Camps Africa with his innovative Kicks4Camps project, was honored with a certificate of appreciation. Phil also recognized the Claude Moore Foundation, represented by Jessica Tadlock, for its ongoing support which has helped give hundreds of children a chance to live…and to learn, and perhaps to grow up and help change the fate of South Africa and its fight against HIV/AIDS.
