May 24--The Greenwich-based Red Ribbon Foundation hosted the first in a series of dinner conversations to heighten awareness about AIDS at a private home in Belle Haven. Attending the event were 12 couples; Red Ribbon Board members; award-winning actor, film producer and activist Danny Glover who was the guest of honor; Tommy Clark, founder of Grassroot Soccer; and Phil Lilienthal, founder of Global Camps Africa. The evening raised more than $25,000 and marked the creation of the Red Ribbon Foundation Africa Fund. Red Ribbon currently provides grants to five African organizations: Grassroot Soccer, Global Camps Africa, mother2mother, Nyumbani Children's Home and YouthAIDS. Money raised from the event will go to further support these organizations.
The Red Ribbon Foundation, a Greenwich-based nonprofit organization committed to winning the war against AIDS, recently awarded $500,000 in grants to 19 organizations aiding in the fight. Red Ribbon, founded in 1994, has awarded more than $1.7 million to HIV/AIDS organizations and has been directly responsible for an additional $200,000 in grants through a Challenge Grants program. The Red Ribbon Foundation, the leading AIDS fundraising organization in Connecticut, raises money through community events and awards grants to local, national and international organizations dedicated to prevention, research or compassionate care of individuals living with AIDS.
