Two Poems Written at the June 2007 Camp Sizanani Session

Below are two poems written at the June 2007 Camp Sizanani Session. The first is from a camper, the second is from a Vochelli (camp counselor)

'Our Beautiful Vochellis' by Camper Sizeni
You welcomed us with open arms
You opened your hearts to us
Your smiles made us feel at home
even if it wasn't home

You lifted us up so we can stand on mountains
You gave us wings to fly high
You gave us voices for us to speak
You gave us eyes for us to see
but most of all you gave us brains
for us to think

You were our sisters, brothers, mothers and most of all
our friends
We knew we could always rely on you

You gave us a shoulder to cry on
when we were in pain and needed your love
You taught us how to respect our selves
how to love each other as human beings

You guys have played a very big role in our lives
and we will always love and miss you

'Camper' by Sizanani Vochelli Sizakele Phohleli
In a time of self-exploration you appeared
As nervous as I was
I held on
Knowing I owed you knowledge

I wanted to share with you what someone once shared with me
You became a change in me
The kind of change you only see in the movies
A beautiful change

I became so transparent you could see through me
Your faces were clouded with a smile,

Never thought I could see you cry
Saw you cry thus made me cry
As I understood what you were going through
In your tears I saw me,
I remembered the days I cried so much yet there was no one to hold me.
Behold I am here for you.

For I myself have been hurt, disappointed, challenged and
fell more than 7 times yet I held on, l’m still standing.
I held onto something even I could not see
In mystery it all remained

I held on to you camper
You became a change in me and I in you.

Never thought I was worthy enough to step or even breathe in your midst yet I did.
You were all telling me with your smiles that I can do it
You became as transparent to me I felt trusted
You made me feel needed
You welcomed me in the doors of your souls that were forever closed.

How fortunate of me that you saw in me a mother, a friend and a sister.
How worthy you have made me feel

You have welcomed/accommodated me in the home of your hearts.
Yes, you can trust me
You can rely on me, I’m forever here for you.

It doesn’t matter how many times you fall, all that matters is that you are still standing tall irrespective of those falls.
