DONOR OFFERS $46,664 CHALLENGE MATCH TO AID GLOBAL CAMPS AFRICA

Will match every dollar donated up to $46,664.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Reston, VA--The incredible need to help children affected by HIV/AIDS in South Africa has prompted a supporter of Global Camps Africa to match individual donations raised in the next six months, dollar-for-dollar up to $46,664.

The number was chosen in honor of Nelson Mandela who is celebrating his 90th birthday this year. The number, 46,664, was Mr. Mandela’s prison number when incarcerated on Robben Island for his fight against apartheid. He was the 466th prisoner at Robben Island in 1964.

In the post-apartheid era, as AIDS spread throughout South Africa, Mr. Mandela refocused his energies to fight the pandemic using his prison number as a way to focus the crisis. “AIDS is no longer just a disease, it’s a human rights issue” said Mandela, who’s son died of AIDS in 2005.

“Unfortunately, statistics show that efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa are not keeping pace with the growth of the epidemic” said the donor, who wished to remain anonymous. “I selected Global Camps Africa because of the strength of its life skills education and prevention program and that the children go back into their communities and become teachers themselves” he said. “Anyone who has attended camp in the U.S. knows that the camp experience can be life changing.”

“We are deeply touched by this commitment of support for matching funds and hope that others will take advantage of this donor’s generosity and double the value of their own gift.” said Phil Lilienthal, President and CEO of Global Camps Africa. In a country where it is estimated that one half of all 15-year olds will die of AIDS, this gift and the matching gifts, will help to stem the tide of children being affected and infected with HIV/AIDS”, he added.

Donations, and the opportunity to take advantage of the matching gift, can be made online at www.GlobalCampsAfrica.org or can be mailed to Global Camps Africa, 1606 Washington Plaza, Reston, VA 20190. Winner Announced for Mandela Tickets

A Global Camps supporter from Austin, Texas is the proud winner of the 46664 Concert tickets celebrating Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday in Hyde Park, London on June 27th.

We wish we had a thousand tickets to give away! Thanks to all those that entered the drawing and thank you for all of your continued support.

Hilde Girls Bring It Home for Global Camps Africa!

More than 500 people attended the standing room only sold-out concert as Hilde Girls raised more than $7,000 to aide HIV/AIDS affected children in South Africa by supporting Global Camps Africa, a camp that works with children between the ages of 10-15 years old living in South Africa.

Austin, Texas – Echoing the philosophy that one of the greatest gifts we can give one another is ourselves, The Hilde Girls with Susan Lincoln hosted a celebration concert on April 12 in Austin to benefit Global Camps Africa and to raise awareness and support for the children of Africa affected by HIV/AIDS.

“Through this celebration concert, the Hilde Girls generously shared their gift of music with the Austin community and expressed the spirit of ‘umbutu’ to children half a world away” said Jean White of Global Camps Africa. “We are extremely grateful.” Umbutu is the Zulu word for ‘humanity.’

Hilde Girls was founded by Susan Lincoln, an inspiring singer, teacher, and visionary from Austin, Texas. In 1998 Lincoln, a trained opera singer visited Germany and the Abbey of Hildegard of Bingen. Hildegard was a 12th Century visionary nun who received and wrote her music through meditation. Lincoln found the music to be so spiritually inspiring that she was determined to come back to Texas and teach the songs to other women.

Now, nine years later these songs along with others written by more contemporary artists are sung regularly with Lincoln’s leadership by the Hilde Girls, named after Hildegard. Once or twice a year, the Hilde Girls host celebrations and donate proceeds to a charity. Previous gifts have been given to Safe Place, GEN Austin and Save Our Springs Alliance.

“We wanted to focus on healing the Africa within each of us and the heart and soul of our planet by singing for children affected by AIDS, “said Lincoln. “One of our songs features awareness brought to the attention of the world by Nkosi Johnson, a young African boy who died of AIDS.”

“In a country where it is estimated that one half of all 15-year olds will die of AIDS, each of us has it in our power to take a step to help stem the tide of children being affected and infected with this disease” said Phil Lilienthal, CEO of Global Camps Africa.

The Hilde Girls efforts are inspirational and we hope what they were able to accomplish will inspire others across the United States to follow their lead in showing that talents can be combined with a humanitarian heart to help save children’s lives in South Africa.”

“I cannot say enough good things about this camp and what it provides for these children” Lincoln said. “It is a true testament to the power of love and the power of One that each of us has within ourselves.”

“I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can.” - Edward Everett Hale -

A personal note from Tommy

I am Tommy Kennedy, #27 -- Senior place kicker on the James Madison High School football team in Vienna, Virginia. This Fall I will be doing my best to put lots of points up on the Madison “Warhawk” scoreboard. As I started preparing for the upcoming season, I decided I also wanted to do something to support the vision of a man I greatly admire who is changing the lives of kids in Africa affected by HIV/AIDS.

Phil Lilienthal had a distinguished career as an attorney in Reston, Virginia while serving at the same time as the Director of Camp Winnebago, a boys camp in Maine where I spent five great summers. In his younger days in the 1960’s, Phil was a Peace Corps volunteer in Ethiopia. In 2004, he decided to rededicate himself to the needs of children in Africa. He combined his years of experience as a camp director with his big heart and understanding of how to make a positive difference in the lives of African children and created “Global Camps Africa”. Information about the amazing work this non-profit organization is doing can be found at www.GlobalCampsAfrica.org or by calling the Global Camps Africa office in Reston, Virginia at 703/437-0808.

In the summer of 2006, I visited Africa and saw for myself the difficult lives of children there. Please join me in supporting Global Camps Africa by pledging $1 for every point I score this season – play-off games included! (Last Fall I kicked for 34 points.) Of course, any size donation will be sincerely appreciated.

If you want to sponsor me, please reply to this message and I will send you periodic game updates and my final point tally via e-mail. At the end of the season, please send your tax deductible (Federal Tax ID # 91-2191939) donation directly to:

Reston, Virginia - Thursday, March 8, 2007 - Greater Reston Arts Center - Art from Camp Sizanani

Art From Camp Sizanani, South Africa

In cooperation with the Greater Reston Arts Center and in conjunction with Youth Art Month
Approximately 150 people attended a reception on Thursday March 8, 2007 to introduce the community to some of the extraordinary artwork from our camp. The reception was held at the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE), 12001 Market Street, Reston from 6 to 8 p.m.

The “Art from Camp Sizanani” exhibition provided a unique insight into the world of our campers through the medium of intuitive painting. Intuitive painting is about creativity as adventure, as process and as a tool to enhance our lives. In January, 99 girls at Camp Sizanani participated in the intuitive painting classes. For many of them, this was their first painting class. The outcome was profound.
Intuitive artist and instructor Judith Forst and Lynn Lilienthal were among the five instructors at camp and were able to attend the GRACE exhibit along with GCA Board members Phil Lilienthal, Kohann Whitney, Bob Secundy and Development Director Jean Van Devanter White, who also worked at the January camp, Light refreshments, including a sampling of South African wines, were served.
