Why Your Help is Critical

More than 1/3 of today’s 15 year olds in South Africa will die from AIDS. There are 11 million AIDS orphans in sub Saharan Africa. By 2010 that number could be 20 million. 2000 began with 24 million Africans infected with the virus. Absent a miracle, nearly all will die by 2010.

To add perspective to this, the events of September 11, 2001 stand out as one of the worst tragedies of our time with nearly 3,000 deaths that day. The deaths due to AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa are more than two 9/11’s a day--every day--every week--every month—every year.

Millions of children affected by AIDS are vulnerable. Groups of orphaned children are increasingly common–children growing up without adults to supply love, nurturing, care and protection, who are hungry, malnourished and stigmatized.

Disconnected from social norms and vulnerable to violence, sexual exploitation and political opportunism, children and young people easily turn to crime to survive. If you look at the ease with which unhappy or insecure children can be recruited as child soldiers you understand the dangers.

These children need more than words. They need leadership that touches their lives. They need action on a scale that touches them. They need your support to enable Global Camps Africa to make that happen.

Leave a Legacy. You don’t have to a Carnegie or a Rockefeller to be a philanthropist. You too can leave a legacy to something you believe in. You can give through your will. The gift may be a specific bequest (an item or dollar amount), or may be characterized as a percent of your estate (i.e. 1%, 3%, 5%, etc.). A bequest offers immediate and lasting recognition to the individual donor and it helps Global Camps Africa continue to fulfill our mission to help the vulnerable and needy children of South Africa in the future.
