Camp Sizanani - March and September 2008 Camps
We have had wonderful international volunteers continuing to join our South African counselors. Peace Corps South Africa has made its top Peace Corps Volunteers available to us. At the last camp, four professional actors and dancers from ASTEP (Actors Striving to End Poverty), joined us from the U.S.

On the human interest side, I asked President-elect Obama's Senate office for photos to give to the campers and, through Washington friends, Liz and Douglas Smith, we got 150 photos to give to the campers before they leave camp in two weeks!

Personally, I find that in times of economic distress, I give more to those in need because I am more aware of my own fortunate quality of life and how others are suffering. I hope you feel the same,

During the holiday season, it is particularly poignant to be in a position to serve children who are in extremely vulnerable positions. Through no behaviors of their own, their health is often compromised and they are HIV positive.

Given the learning they get at camp and, unfortunately nowhere else, they are taught how to deal with their condition and can live long. healthy lives.

Without such knowledge, it is likely they will not live to middle age.

$500 will support a child in gaining the knowledge that he or she needs to survive and prosper by attending a camp session and a year of our biweekly follow-up program of Kids Clubs. More will support more. Lesser amounts are truly appreciated and add up. Please give what you can.

In order to keep you better informed about our children and camp activities, in the next few weeks you receive the first of a more regularly scheduled communication from us in the form of an e-newsletter. We are having a contest to help name it! Send me your ideas for a newsletter title as soon as possible. The winning submission will receive a Global Camps Africa T-shirt and a beautiful handmade Zulu beaded bracelet.
As always, I am impressed and delighted by your generosity and willingness to help others. Please continue to give to these wonderful children who will--with your help-- become vibrant, energetic and caring members of society.

Many thanks,

Phil

P.S. Don't give till it hurts; give till it feels good.
